Carnaval 2024

Decorations and stages being set up in the different plazas around Santa Cruz de Tenerife for Carnaval. Live music performances are a major part of the Carnaval celebration.

In February, I experienced my first Carnaval. Carnaval in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is credited as the 2nd largest Carnaval in the world. This year, I learned that normally over half-a-million to a million people attend Carnaval in Santa Cruz de Tenerife each year.

Picture of one of the many different floats that appeared in the Opening Parade for Carnaval, both floats and people dancing and singing filled the streets to commemorate the beginning of the celebrations for Carnaval 2025.

Preparation and smaller parties for Carnaval in Santa Cruz de Tenerife started around mid-January. However, the Opening Ceremony/Parade for Carnaval this year was on February 9th, 2024. and ended on February 18th, 2024, so the major celebrations went on for a little over a week. I really enjoyed Carnaval this year, and I’m looking forward to Carnaval in 2025. Below are some pictures from my first Carnaval experience.

The above video is from a performance during Day Carnaval. It’s a video of one of the live music performances that I referred to at the beginning of the article.

Day Carnaval Crowd and Vibes - Carnaval events occur both at night and during the day on the Carnaval weekends. During the weekdays (Monday-Friday), Carnaval is mainly celebrated at night. I prefer Day Carnaval over Night Carnaval events personally, but I'm sure other people might like the Night Carnaval events more than the Day Carnaval.

Thank you for checking out this article. I know that this article is a bit shorter than expected, but I was focused on going to the different Carnaval events and I should’ve taken more pictures. I can’t wait to share my next article with you and, as I stated above, I am excited for my next Carnaval. :)
